Three Mpox Patients in East Jakarta Declared Fit

Three patients who tested positive for the Monkeypox or Mpox virus in East Jakarta now have been declared cured.

East Jakarta Health Sub-agency Head, Herwin Meifendy, said those three patients are two from East Jakarta and one from outside East Jakarta.

"Three confirmed positive cases out of 10 suspected cases. But all have recovered," Herwin said, Tuesday (9/3).

According to Herwin, this disease, which was first discovered in West and Central Africa, can be completely cured, depending on the patient's immune system.

Herwin appealed to residents to apply Clean and Healthy Living Behavior, avoid contact with wild animals, limit contact with infected people and pay attention to environmental cleanliness in order to prevent Mpox spread.

The Mpox virus can be transmitted through direct contact with skin rashes, bodily fluids, or contaminated objects from an infected person.

Then indirect contact with surfaces contaminated by bodily fluids or skin lesions of infected people and direct contact with infected animals, such as rats, squirrels and monkeys.

Patients who are confirmed positive for Mpox must be isolated in a hospital or other health facility to prevent transmission.

Supportive treatment is applied to relieve symptoms such as fever, pain, and fatigue. Antiviral therapy, such as tecovirimat, can then be given to reduce the severity of the disease and speed recovery.

"Patients with clinical symptoms of Mpox should immediately undergo laboratory tests to confirm the diagnosis. Confirmation of the diagnosis is done through laboratory tests, such as PCR or serology, to identify the presence of the monkeypox virus," he stated.
